Oh Christmas Tree, O christmas Tree, how lovely are your gold sprinkled tops! These Christmas tree spritz cookies are rich and buttery. They are filled with delicious nutella and sprinkled with gold sugar. They are bite size and you can't have just one!

Spritz cookies are always one of my favorite to make during the holiday. There are so many disks to choose from and the different types of fillings you can put in them are endless. I used Nutella as I always have an abundant amount of this delicious hazelnut spread in my home.
Norah picked out the gold sugar and I loved seeing the excitement when she got to sprinkle it on the cookies! Ah....memories in the making on a daily with her! She is really getting a hold of the baking thing. Watch out Martha Stewart!
However, during the making of these wonderful buttery delights, my Wilton Cookie press decided to peter out on me. However, it wouldn't be the holiday season without something failing in the kitchen!
Tips and tricks for spritz cookies
Spritz cookies are generally easy to make, but if you want perfect cookies follow these tips below!
- Make sure the butter is very soft, so soft that it is almost falling apart.
- Unlike other cookies, spritz cookies do not require any chilling time and the dough should be warm going into the press.
- Don't use a non-stick pan when pressing cookies as they will not stick. Use metal baking sheet.
- If using food coloring, only use the gel, as other ones will alter texture of the dough. Cookies will spread out too much in the oven.
How to make Christmas Tree Spritz Cookies
This cookie dough is fairly simple to make. You start out by preheating your oven to 375 degrees. Cream your butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in your egg, milk and both extracts. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and baking powder together. You then add that into the cream mixture.
Assemble your cookie press (pray that it works first) and fit with tree disk. Click those bad boys on an ungreased cookie sheet and put in the oven. I baked for 7-8 minutes or until set (do not brown).
When cookies are completely cooled on wire racks, spread the nutella on bottoms of half the cookies and top with the other half of the cookies. Sprinkle the gold sugar and serve!

- 1½ cup unsalted butter room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoon 2% milk
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3½ cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ⅔ cup nutella
- gold sugar
Spritz Tree Cookies
- Preheat oven to 375°. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, milk and extracts. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and baking powder; gradually beat into cream mixture.
- Using a cookie press fitted with the tree disk, press the dough 2 in apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake until set, about 7-8 minutes (oven temps vary). Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- Spread nutella on the bottoms of half of the cookies and top with the remaining cookies. Sprinkle the tops with gold sugar. Store in airtight container.
- Store in an airtight container for 5 days in the fridge
- Freeze for up to a month
